On Thursday, the announcement came from the NFL offices that teams would now be accepted to wear two various helmets beginning in 2022. As you might expect, fans are losing it!
The Titans are bringing back the oil derrick, the powder blue Houston Oilers jerseys, and in general, some swag.
The news came via NFL Insider Adam Schefter yesterday that the league had reversed its thoughts on teams using multiple helmets and decided that starting next season, we will see some options, throwbacks, and who knows what else!
“NFL accepted alternate helmets today for teams wearing throwback uniforms starting in 2022, per league sources. This opens the door to the defending world champion Bucs wearing the old white helmets with the orange swashbuckling Buccaneer as early as 2022.”
Ever since the NFL did the AFL anniversary uniforms in 2009, teams have not been allowed to wear more than one helmet. The Titans said they would only bring back their throwback uniforms when the league allowed for multiple helmets to be used.
And here we are.
Not only are fans ecstatic about the change, but the players also seem to love the idea too! Particularly running back Derrick Henry.
Taylor Lewan was also one of the Tennessee players to tweet his excitement, but it appears his tweet has been narrowed.
This is a grand step for the league and guess what? Everyone is on board with the idea and now teams can wear more uniforms and different uniforms more often!
