NPFL21: Enyimba retain title hopes alive

Enyimba FC attained a precious 2-1 win over Lobi Stars of Makurdi in a rescheduled NPFL fixture in Aba, to keep their NPFL title hope alive.

It was a game that saw the return of Chukwuka Onuwa and Valentine Nwabali to their former clubs and they were in the starting eleven.

Enyimba began the game well and sought an early goal. Enyimba’s search for an early goal was rewarded in the 7th minute when Victor Mbaoma connected a pass from Reuben Bala and he slotted past Nwabali.

The goal roused Lobi Stars as they searched for that equalizer and almost got a goal in the 24th minute when John Lazarus released a shot on goal but Olufemi Kayode saved his long-range effort.

Enyimba got the second goal in the 42nd minute when Farouk Mohammed sent Stanley Nwabali the wrong way from the spot after Tsehuan fouled Reuben Bala in the box.

Ossy Martins scored Lobi Stars’ consolation goal in the 52nd minute when he scored from the spot. The striker found a benefit for his hard work after a lot minutes of pressure on the Enyimba defense.

There were a lot of misses from Enyimba which would have made the scoreline confusing for the visitors, with Mbaoma missing two simple chances of making it a hat-trick on the evening.

Enyimba has earned two games and drawn one in their past three games, including an away win over Wikki Tourists in Bauchi. They will travel to play against Kano Pillars on Sunday.
