English Premier League table 2022/23: Updated EPL standings and race for title, Champions League places, and relegation survival

Manchester City kept up their strong start to their Premier League title defence on Matchday 4, although they had to battle back from 2-0 down to defeat Crystal Palace.

Arsenal remain on top though after they came from behind to edge a win over Fulham in the late kickoff on Saturday. Brighton & Hove Albion moved briefly into the top two after edging out Leeds United, who are level on seven points with Chelsea following the Blues’ battling victory over Leicester City.

Manchester United ended a seven-match wait for an away win thanks to a Bruno Fernandes strike at Southampton, while Liverpool banished thoughts of that defeat at Old Trafford with an utterly dominant 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth — one of the biggest victories in Premier League history.

Below is the full Premier League table followed by a snapshot of each race.

Premier League title race

City moved top thanks to their comeback win over Palace – that was until Arsenal defeated Fulham and went back to the summit –  while Brighton are also on 10 points as their strong start to the season continued. Tottenham will hope to join them when they play on Sunday.

Chelsea edged back into the top six after a battling win over Leicester.

Champions League places & European places

While names like Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are not a surprise in the top half of the table, you wonder whether some of the new entries can hang around for a bit longer.

A European place would definitely make for a successful season for Brighton as Graham Potter continues to do impressive work on the south coast, while Leeds must be dreaming of a return to continental football.

Man United and Liverpool are also back in the early top-eight picture after some morale-boosting results.

Premier League relegation

There are teams whose supporters will be nervous to see them already in the relegation zone: Wolves and Everton are considered relegation candidates this season and already struggling, and things seem to be going from bad to worse for Leicester.

West Ham are in need of a good result against Aston Villa, who have also struggled in these early weeks.
